The Purpose
The purpose of the Calgary Homeless Christmas Wish List is to help the people of Calgary connect personally with individual homeless people in a way that is safe and practical. (A similar effort to care for individual homeless people in Vancouver can be found at )
The Christmas Wish List began from the realization of growing numbers of homeless and that caring for the poor is central to the message of Jesus. We believe a way to help the homeless is to know their stories and to connect with them person-to-person. Although this effort has begun during the Christmas season, kindness can be shown daily by acknowledging them on the street, speaking with them, bringing them food, and encouraging them.

The stories and wishes of individual homeless people were provided by the homeless themselves and from interviews conducted by shelter staff and volunteers from groups wanting to follow in the steps of Jesus and the early Christians. These groups are found throughout the world and are undenominational in the sense of having no central offices and no official printed guide or manual other than the New Testament.

"When homeless people feel cared about, they value themselves more, and then they have the courage and hope and strength to move forward in their lives."
